Morningbell is giving High Fives for Christmas! (year in review)

Saturday, December 23rd, 2006

2006 is almost history, and as a result, another page in the massive book of the Bell has turned.

What has happened over these past 358 days?

In breaking news, get ready to welcome Morningbell 4.0.  If you haven’t heard already, we have parted ways with our drummer Evan Mitchell.  It was an amicable split, and we are all still friends.  It’s always hard sharing a band member with another band and due to some recent scheduling conflicts and an unexpected opportunity for us, we decided that it was time for a change.

Enter long time friend and Gainesville music vet Jake McMullen.  We’re very happy to have Jake on board and look forward to the following semester of shows.

We’ve had more drummers now than Van Halen has had lead singers.

What does 2007 have in store?

Well you can bet your Mr. T cereal that we’re releasing a new album.  You can get your copy as soon as March 3rd.  It sounds pretty sweet so far and I think it’s going to be a hot hot record.  If you want to catch some glimpses, stay tuned to our upcoming podcasts for sneak peeks (you can already hear one song on our myspace page and another on our most recent podcast / available @ www.morningbellonline.com/podcast.htm

We’re hoping to get to new cities in Florida on a more regular basis and Georgia is in our sights again. Additionally, plans for an extended tour are in the works for early summer.

Thank you all for your constant support and we look forward to seeing you in 2007.

Dr. Demento

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

Back in April, for those of you who follow the news section on our website, you will recall that Shaun sent a copy of our album to Dr. Demento, the radio DJ who specializes in novelty songs and is most noted for launching Weird Al’s career.  Well, as it turns out, the doctor actually played […]

December Fools Day Show Current mood: drunk

Friday, December 1st, 2006

December 1st 2oo1. It’s almost the 6th year anniversary of the Bell. God bless everyone!

So, tonight we played our last show of the semester (although there is one next Saturday at Common Grounds) with our good friends The Most. We felt it should be a whammy of a show. However, it was one of those shows where lots of stuff went wrong. My light switch pedal fell apart during the 2nd to last song. I plugged the wrong jackets lights into the wrong switches for Stacie to turn on during Montage, it was just a bit of a mess. Yet, it was one of those messes that was just hilarious to us. We didn’t care. It seemed to all fit into the set as if we planned it all.

I think my favorite part of the entire set was when a gentleman came to the front of the stage at the end of Tomorrow Never Knows and was clearly going to do something wild. As we cued up the final drum part, he took his shirt off and held aloft a yellow band T shirt and put it on, all to the pulse of the massive strobe lights. However, it was the band who played before us’s T shirt, not ours. It was so f’in hilarious!

I watched the whole thing from the stage, with teh strobe effect kicking full force. It was a real spectacle. The fact that it was the wrong band’s t shirt just made it all the more amazing. He ended up returning their shirt to buy ours.

oh man.

well, we’ve had the times of our lives this year with you all and hope that you stay tuned for all the surprised the future has to bring.

too inebriated to continute typing. this took me 10 minutes already.
