Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

Greetings and salutations:

Morningbell is proud to announce the arrival of our 3rd album, “Through the Belly of the Sea,” The world’s first choose your own adventure album. In celebration of it’s arrival, we will be having a choose your own adventure release party/show this Saturday at the Atlantic. The Shedule is as follows:

Show starts at 10:00 with Inuit Jargon, then iOH No! and the Tiger Pit, followed by Morningbell, and finally the Umoja Orchestra. Get there EARLY. It will be crowded.

The show will cost $6, and the first 50 people who use the following password at our merch table get a free CD! (password: swordfish). Do NOT tell others this password. We’re only giving it out to members of our mailing list and those who read our blog. Also, if you don’t get a free copy, we’re selling the album at a bargain basement IPO of $5 this night only! You’re also invited to dress like a sea creature or underwater explorer.

What other festivities can you look forward to?

Wednesday night between 9:00-10:00 on 100.5 the buzz or at www.1005thebuzz.com, Morningbell will be on MoeMusic playing new tunes and being just downright charming.

Thursday, pick up a copy of The Alligator and The Gainesville Sun for stories on the band and the new record.

Also, there will be a total eclipse of the moon on Saturday night. What other CD release can guarantee you that???

Finally, here you have it, the promotional video:

Pirates!

Sunday, February 11th, 2007

Another jam packed weekend of music on the road.  This weekend, as I’m sure you know by now brought us to Tampa for 2 shows.  (see previous blog for what we did).  It was a good time and we got to test out a bunch of new material.

A few weekend highlights were as follows:

1.  Trying to find food after the USF show and settling on a Perkins that smelled like a fart.  This was after pulling up to and quickly away from Crack Head Dennys, Non-vegetarian friendly Steak n Shake, and the scariest Waffle House ever.  It was aweful.  I swear it was like we were all high, we couldn’t stop laughing at everything.

Mini Highlight w/in a highlight was when the fat older couple with big cowboy hats on took the hats off to eat their perkins slop.

2. Hot Tub.  Gotta love a hot tub.

3. High school girl’s swimming team that was staying at our hotel.  A high school girl’s swimming convention really always just ends up being a pervert convention, no?

4. PIRATES!?  Grown men and women dressed out full fledged like pirates and behaving like children.  Yes, we played during Gasparilla.  Tampa, we have determined, is a parade based economy.  The parking in Ybor was 20 bucks per car!  Not to mention that the crack prices were exorbitant.

Now, we’re off for over 2 weeks.  Jake is going to Finland.

CD release is coming!

January Jargon: The Ghost of Jargon Past

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

So I just found this article online that got written about us right before our fourth show two months or so after after “Who Authorized This?” came out. Instead of a few people knowing about who we are like now, absolutely nobody did.
This might just be nostalgia talking, but I think this is my favorite […]

Appreciation Month!

Tuesday, February 6th, 2007

So, February is traditionally Jason Sanchez Appreciation month. We appreciate Jay, Sanchez, Jason Sanchez, or whatever you may call him with all our hearts. he is our true blue, having been there since the dirty days back in south florida.

That being said, i would like to amend this years February to become Jason Sanchez/Shaun Spalding appreciation month.

Shaun toiled day and night on the album artwork for “through the belly of the sea” (our new album, you might have heard about it). We cried, we winced, we’re still not sure if it will be back from the printers in time.

He truly made the packaging a work of art and we’re greatly appreciative of him.

…we still haven’t paid him.

January Jargon: Part Two

Tuesday, February 6th, 2007

After having only a single black extra large t-shirt for almost a semester, we finally got some new shirts printed on Navy and Baby Blue shirts. Check it out…

My favorite reaction is “I like it, but I don’t get it”
I guess the answer to that is that there’s nothing to get except for we wrote […]

January Jargon: Part One

Saturday, February 3rd, 2007

So last month was a pretty exciting month for us starting with the MEISA Battle of the Bands last Wednesday…
We played a short 20 minute set, but used the time pretty wisely playing a 5:02 version of Jada Pinkett Smith retooled as a duet between me and “Butch Armwrestle” aka Travis.

The crowd was awesome, and […]

Impulse purchase thwarted by salesman

Friday, February 2nd, 2007

So, I went by Sims music and sound today feeling lucky. I just had a feeling they had something nice waiting there for me. I should start by noting that my Rickenbacker bass has been in the shop for a few weeks and I’m feeling inadequate with my backup. So inadequate that I’ve been looking for a nicer backup bass online lately.

So, i walk in, and immediately in front of me is an Epiphone Paul McCartney Hoffner style bass on consignment for 395. I play it, it plays well, it feels good, it looks perfect.

So, naturally, I ask, what’s the lowest the dude who’s selling it wants to go.

THe salesman told me he wouldn’t budge on 395. So, i’m crunching the numbers in my head. I ask how much a new one costs and the sales man looks it up and says 479. So, i’d only be saving 80 bucks. I woulnd’t pay tax or shipping online, and I’d certainly pay tax at the store, so that gets us up to a difference of 60 dollars for used vs. new.

So, i’m saying this all outloud to myself in the presence of the sales man when he says:
“Well, buy it online.”
Me: I’m just talking it over in my head.
Sales man: can you do it in your head?
Me: excuse me?
SM: it’s getting annoying.

So, I walk away, hang the bass up and proceed to leave, avoiding confrontation.

SM: see ya later
EA: (approaches SM) YOu know, you don’t have to be short with me, I”ve done business with you before.
SM: yeah, but it just gets a little old hearing that.
EA: i’ve sold guitars, I know how this works and what they’re worth. You could have sold a guitar today, but now you didnt.

end scene.

And i probably would have bought it too. WE have a shitty beatles show tonight and it would have been perfect!

but i’m glad i didn’t because i already found it cheaper online brand new.

so, Fuck you Sims music and sound.
