Hawk Attack!

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

So, today, the neighborhood Hawk decided to go after one of our chickens. Good thing she was too fat for him to fly off with. It’s really weird, b/c I’ve seen him flying around the area the past few days. I even asked Stacie last night if she thought the chickens were too big for the hawk to go after. But evidently, they’re not. So, luckily Travis was home to scare away the Hawk otherwise, he might have just fought her on the ground. Poor chicken.

Travis, feel free to elaborate. . .

. . . let me creep to the mic like a phantom.

Travis here.

I was sitting in my room, tickling my balls, when I heard all of the chickens let out a collective cluck of terror.

Chickens are scared of everything, including strong breezes and lizard farts, so for the first millisecond, I wasn’t going to even look outside. But I had never seen them all bolt into a corner and cower like this before, and I could just tell something was wrong. Perhaps I have some sort of heightened awareness to all living things - a fifth sense, if you will.

So I look out my window and there is a goddamned hawk on top of a chicken. and they’re doing a funny kind of flapping fandango.

The hawk is grabbing the chicken with its talons and trying to lift it off the ground, but the chicken is at least 1.5 times if not twice the size of the hawk, so it can’t lift it.

Keep in mind, i am describing the blurry impression of the scene I got in less than half a second, because immediately, I’m sprinting out of my room, around the corner, the door is locked! unlock the door, crash through the screen door and make noise and clap and yell.

The hawk dropped the chicken. I made muscles.

Oh yeah, in the live version, there’s a section with Eric’s picks, such as my favorite pizza joint, coffee shop, late night talk show host, etc.

Orlando

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

We traveled to Orlando for MLK weekend to meet the fam and so Stacie could work at the National American Veterinary Conference.  Here we go!

Legos!!!!  This lego store was actually really cool.  You could mix and match lego pieces from these vaults and make your own horrible creation.

Wall of Lego Men

I was fairly certain this guy killed the kid he stole this hat from

Fairly cool exhibit in Epcot.  I like how the guy in the 2nd row, 2nd from left is looking at the camera

I don’t think that adults should ever wear these hats, even in Disney World.  Oh yeah, the Maelstrom is the gayest ride ever!

Evidently, Buddhist monks go to Epcot

Japan Dinner

Our chef had absolutely no adult dinner crowd repertoire, although she did stick to her bit, making jokes about the onions looking like mickey mouse, or laying out sesame seeds in a line on the grill and calling it sesame street and so forth

We actually brought our own ponchos!

Thunder Mountain Posed excitement

This was THE BEST!  there is some exhibit at EPCOT that has fountain drinks with sodas from around the world.  Here are before and after shots of us with the Italian apertif “Beverly.”  These shots are absolutely real reaction shots and we did NOT ham it up for the camera.  That shit was nasty.

Norway!

All in all, it was a fun weekend.  We got to spend time with our family and just relax.  I do have to say, I am pretty burnt out on the Disney parks.  It’s frustrating to see so much waste.  At one of the restaurants, they were serving each individual lunch in a Styrofoam box.  It just can’t be healthy for the world to have Orlando up and running.

So, enjoy.

The Most will be missed Current mood: sad

Saturday, January 12th, 2008

Tonight was the last show for the Most.  (a moment of silence, please).

The Most was one of “the most” fun bands we’ve ever seen.  We have thorougly enjoyed each of their shows and have been honored to share the stage with them on many occasions.

It is rare that you meet a local band who you truly love as musicians and as people.  The Most were just that.  Their shows packed an intensity and an entertainment value that couldn’t be matched.  I remember the first time I ever saw them.  Evidently they had been around for a while, yet we hadn’t seen them yet.  It was at the Sidebar on a Wednesday night.  It was a benefit show for MEISA, and Travis played as well.  Charlie was sporting a red Addidas jumpsuit, a la The Royal Tennenbaums and his mom was there.  The songs were catchy, the lyrics clever as ever, and the grooves were kickin.  I believe we have seen almost every show since.

We had a great time during our set tonight, but the night was really about The Most.  We are proud see them off into the sunset: another chapter of Gainesville music gone by.

So, here’s to the Most.  We will miss you very much.  Thanks for all the great times and great songs.

Orange Records is excited about 2008!!!

Sunday, January 6th, 2008

What’s new for 2008, you ask?!?!?!

1. How about a new Morningbell record?! Travis has 15+ songs in the works and has already started recording. You’ll be hearing debuts of the songs starting soon. Probably February.

2. How about a new Inuit Jargon record?! We’ve already started work on 6 songs and things are sounding hot. Hotter from the oven?

3. How about a new act?! Orange is happy to welcome Copperhead Chris and the Snake Charmers to our roster. The Snake Charmers play whiskey-soaked, honkey-tonked, southern-fried alt-country music. We’ve started recording some tracks and are looking forward to seeing how it comes out.

4. How about a split EP?!?!?! We will be releasing a 5 way split EP just like how Kiss released 4 solo albums at the same time. It will feature material by Travis, Eric, Stacie, Chris, and A SPECIAL GUEST.

It’s gonna be a stanker of a year!
